In a small room will the stand +TV 49inch look to big.

  Only you are the judge of that. However the stand does not make the TV look bigger than it is, it complements it with an attractive design and features to hide the clutter of leads and cables from view.

  Yes it is. I have a Panasonic Sound Plate on the base shelf and a dvd player plus another smaller internet box on the upper shelf. All in all I am happy with the stand.

How do you allow height on the unit for a soundbar

  I have mine plugged into my hifi system rather than use a soundbar. The fitting does allow for height adjustment.
